Trip to Buson

Some co-workers of and I took a day trip to Buson. Buson is on the other end of the Korean penensula, the south-east corner, as it were. It's about 3 hours travel by high speed train, the KTX.

Our adventure starts out at Seoul Station where we get tickets and board the "bullet train", top speed is about 300 kilometers per hour or about 180 miles per hour.

The train just looks fast, doesn't it?

It's a pretty smooth riding train and the trip goes by rather quickly. This is Ryan and Tom, co-workers and friends who went on the trip with me.

Buson is located right on the water, the sea of Japan, I think it's called. I can imagine this beach filled with people in warmer weather. It kind of reminded me of a beach in Australia near Brisbane.

We decide to go to a fish market. The fish and other sea animals seemed to be quite fresh.

Here a seller holds up an 0ctopus (I guess) in hopes on inticing me to purchase it. I didn't.

They had a large variety of fish.

Is she holding a shark?

You have to try to bargain for you fish. Here, we are seen doing a very poor job of barganing.

I think each fish seller must work on commision. They working very hard to try to sell me something.

They cut the fish for you and then you go upstairs and they bring it to you, raw, of course.

We rode a cable car up the side of a mountain. There are many trails for hiking up in the mountains. The younger generation doesn't have much interest in mountain hiking, but folks about my age are still very interested in this activity.

We hiked to an area they called Nammoon, which means, literally, south gate. I figure this is a place they used to post guards and watch the south bay to see if they can spot Japonese fighting ships. I think they would have then sent smoke signals to the next hightes peak and so on.

This is a side view of the gate. It seemed obvious that the gate itself could not keep anyone out. That is why I speculate that it's use was much more of a watchtower.

It was fun, but a long day and I was glad to get home.
