Tree "Sweaters"

I found this interesting. Last November, my colleagues and I began to see trees wrapped up in straw (I guess it is). And we wondered why. Well it turns out that in winter bugs like to nest in the bark. And then, I suppose, they just take up residence. So they wrap the trees when it turns cold and the bugs crawl into the straw instead of the bark. When the weather turns warm again they strip off the straw and burn it, bugs and all. Neat trick.
The name "tree sweater" was coined by a co-worker of mine, Marta. She's pretty clever about coming up with good names when you don't know what to call something.
